Our staff members work collaboratively, sharing their expertise to create engaging and innovative lessons tailored to individual needs. They are not just educators; they are mentors and role models who inspire students to reach their full potential. The teamwork and dedication of our staff truly reflect our commitment to excellence in Catholic education, making St. Pius X a wonderful place for families.

Staff Awards

At the 2026 Spirit of Catholic Education Awards ceremony, our two nominees took home awards, a remarkable result that reflects the quality of people who make up our staff at this school.

Our first award went to Stacey Atkins, who was recognised for her outstanding contribution to Catholic Identity (not just here at St Pius X, but across our entire Star of the Sea Parish).

Over the past two years, Stacey, alongside Cara Chisholm from St Joseph's Primary School, has led the redevelopment of our Parish Sacramental Program. Their work has strengthened the connection between school, parish and family, and created more meaningful faith experiences for students and families as they prepare to receive the Sacraments. Through their vision this reimagined sacramental program engages students and families in the life of the Church and supports our young people in their faith journey.

The second award recognised our Year 1/2 Team, Clare Green, Rachel Brown and Kate Sewell, for their work in creating Rich Pedagogical Practices for Deeper Learning and Wellbeing. Recognising the importance of strong early literacy foundations, the team undertook significant professional inquiry into structured literacy and phonics, ultimately implementing the Sounds Write program across the junior years. Their work has reflected a deep commitment to research-informed teaching, continual reflection and responsive practice. Importantly, these efforts have had a measurable impact, with student achievement data showing significant growth alongside increased student confidence, engagement and enjoyment of learning.

We often talk at St Pius X about getting the balance right between faith, wellbeing and academic learning. These two awards are a reminder that we are on the right track, and that the people doing this work every day deserve to be celebrated.
